Worldcoin has officially rebranded itself as World, marking a significant shift in its mission towards enhancing digital identity verification. Announced during a keynote address on October 17, co-founders Sam Altman and Alex Blania outlined ambitious plans to expand their user base to 1 billion verified individuals.
Central to this rebranding is the launch of World Chain, an Ethereum-secured Layer 2 blockchain designed to support millions of users while prioritizing verified human identities over bots. The new blockchain aims to enhance efficiency and functionality within the World ecosystem, which includes the recently updated World App and biometric Orb devices.
The upgraded Orb, now equipped with advanced Nvidia Jetson technology, significantly boosts performance and security. It scans users' irises to generate a World ID, a digital passport confirming individual identity amidst rising concerns about AI-generated content. The new device is designed for broader accessibility, with plans for deployment in public spaces and self-service kiosks.

Additionally, World has introduced features like World ID Credentials and Deep Face, aimed at combating deepfake technology and enhancing user privacy. With these innovations, World seeks not only to streamline identity verification but also to position itself as a leader in the evolving landscape of digital identity solutions.
