Cryptocurrency users are facing a serious threat from a new variant of Clipper malware, which is capable of altering wallet addresses during transactions. This malicious software hijacks the clipboard data of victims, replacing their intended cryptocurrency wallet addresses with those of cybercriminals. As a result, unsuspecting users may unknowingly send funds to the attackers instead of their intended recipients.
Recent findings by Cyble Research and Intelligence Labs (CRIL) reveal several Clipper variants, including Atlas and Keyzetsu, which are being advertised on platforms like Telegram. These variants can store multiple wallet addresses and execute commands to manipulate clipboard data, making them particularly dangerous for cryptocurrency transactions.
Binance representatives have issued a warning to users, advising them to avoid downloading suspicious plugins and applications on both Android and iOS devices. They emphasize the importance of verifying the authenticity of sources before entering sensitive information, such as wallet addresses.
To mitigate risks, users should adopt stringent security measures:
- Only download applications from trusted sources.
- Regularly update software and applications.
- Utilize strong, unique passwords and enable two-factor authentication.
By staying vigilant and following these precautions, cryptocurrency users can better protect themselves against the growing threat of Clipper malware.
