BitFuFu, a prominent player in the bitcoin mining sector, has reported a staggering increase in its mining costs for Q2 2024, with the average cost of producing one mined bitcoin rising to $51,887. This represents a significant 168% increase from the $19,344 cost recorded in the same quarter of 2023. The company attributed this surge to various operational factors, including rising energy costs and increased equipment leasing expenses.
In its latest financial disclosures, BitFuFu revealed that it mined 780 BTC during the second quarter, contributing to a total revenue of $77.1 million from its cloud mining services, which produced 1,272 BTC for clients. The average cost for cloud mining customers was reported at $60,534 per bitcoin, indicating a 38% gross loss based on the current market conditions where bitcoin prices hovered around $65,000.
BitFuFu operates 25 mining farms across three continents, boasting a total capacity of 522 MW and a hashrate of 24.7 EH/s, a notable increase from 15.2 EH/s in 2023. This growth in capacity is part of BitFuFu's strategy to enhance its mining efficiency and output. The company has also received strategic backing from Bitmain, a leading mining equipment manufacturer, which has bolstered its operational capabilities.
The rising costs and the company's efforts to optimize its mining operations come at a time when the bitcoin market remains volatile. As BitFuFu continues to expand its infrastructure and services, it aims to maintain its competitive edge in the rapidly evolving cryptocurrency landscape. The company's shares are traded on NASDAQ under the ticker FUFU, reflecting its status as a key player in the digital asset mining industry.
