Meta shareholders propose adding Bitcoin to corporate treasury to protect against inflation.

Bitcoin adoption aligns with Meta’s leadership, including Zuckerberg and Andreessen’s connections to cryptocurrency.

Similar shareholder proposals at Amazon and Microsoft highlight growing corporate interest in Bitcoin.

Meta shareholders want the company to add Bitcoin to the corporate treasury. The proposal, led by Ethan Peck, an early Meta investor, urges the tech giant to explore Bitcoin as a reserve asset. This move reflects the growing interest in cryptocurrency from major corporations.
Bitcoin: A Hedge Against Inflation
Peck’s proposal points to Meta’s $72 billion in cash and marketable securities. While sitting on the balance sheet, these assets lose value due to inflation and low bond yields. Peck argues that Bitcoin could protect Meta from inflation’s impact.
He believes Bitcoin offers the best solution, unlike cash and bonds, which don't address the issue. Zuckerberg's connection to Bitcoin is well known. He famously named a goat “Bitcoin.” Marc Andreessen, a Meta board member, also supports Bitcoin and works with Coinbase.
The Corporate Bitcoin Trend
Meta isn’t the only company considering Bitcoin. Similar proposals have emerged at Amazon and Microsoft, pushed by the National Center for Public Policy Research (NCPPR). These proposals reflect a growing trend to use Bitcoin as a reserve asset.
Bitcoin’s recent surge to $108,268 has made it more attractive for corporations. Peck’s proposal also highlights BlackRock’s recommendation of a 2% Bitcoin allocation. Companies like MicroStrategy and Tesla have already adopted Bitcoin.
These companies have benefited from Bitcoin’s long-term value and its ability to hedge against inflation. If Meta follows suit, this move could change how companies approach treasury management. Adding Bitcoin may be a step toward modernizing corporate asset strategies.
