Vice President Kamala Harris has unveiled an ambitious economic initiative aimed at supporting Black entrepreneurs, proposing a program that would offer one million fully forgivable loans of up to $20,000. This announcement comes as part of her "Opportunity Agenda for Black Men," designed to bolster her appeal among Black male voters ahead of the upcoming election.
During a campaign rally at East Carolina University, Harris emphasized the need for increased access to capital for those facing financial barriers. The loans, which would be facilitated through partnerships with the Small Business Administration and various lenders, aim to empower individuals to start their own businesses and achieve financial independence.
In addition to the loan program, Harris's plan includes measures to enhance apprenticeship opportunities and promote better health outcomes for Black men, addressing diseases that disproportionately affect this demographic. She also advocates for the legalization of marijuana and a regulatory framework for cryptocurrencies, recognizing their growing significance in the financial landscape.
Harris's outreach is particularly crucial as recent polls indicate a decline in support among Black voters, especially men. Her campaign aims to engage this key demographic through targeted initiatives and community events, contrasting her approach with that of former President Donald Trump, who has also been courting Black voters in swing states.
